You may have seen our previous posting about Bob Dylan coming to Vietnam. If you missed it check it out here.
Bob Dylan has recorded over 50 albums, a career spanning six decades and has been named one of Time Magazines ’100 Most Influential People of the Century’. Why would 70+ year old folk-legend choose to come to Vietnam for the first time now? Well, his first performance in Vietnam is to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Trinh Cong Son, Vietnam’s most beloved songwriter.
Once called the Bob Dylan of Vietnam, Trinh Cong Son, dreamt of peace. The singer- songwriter was known for his anti war and love songs. He has made such an impact in the history of Vietnamese music even ten years after his death his songs are still heavily played and sung as if they were new. Trinh Cong Son’s home town of Hue has revealed that they will name a road after him, Trinh Cong Son Road. This is to honour his contribution to Vietnamese music. Best known for his music, Trinh Cong Son had many creative outlets beyond composing songs. He was also a poet and a painter.
In celebration of the late and great Trinh Cong Son’s death anniversary there will be seven concerts held in three key cities across Vietnam: Hanoi , Hue and Saigon. Good news kids, if you’re a university student there will be three free shows for you at major university stadiums across Vietnam. The first concert of the seven kicked off last Thursday at the opera house in HCMC.
